Tension prevailed for a while here on Monday after flex-board banners, hailing the ‘victory’ of a candidate for the Kancheepuram Lok Sabha constituency, appeared on Gandhi Road.
Senior police officials received calls from representatives of some parties in the evening, saying four banners, thanking the voters for electing AIADMK nominee Maragatham Kumaravel with a margin of 1.68 lakh votes, were put up near the Vazhakarutheeswarar temple, though the counting of votes was scheduled for May 16. Later, the banners, put up in the name of the former AIADMK town secretary, Parimalam, were removed, the police said.
The sitting Congress MP, P. Viswanathan, has lodged a complaint with Chief Election Commissioner V. Sampath in New Delhi, alleging electoral malpractices in the constituency.
