The Madras High Court Bench here on Monday ordered notice to the Chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), the Director General of Police, Tamil Nadu, the producer and the director of the film ‘Madras Cafe’ on a public interest litigation seeking a ban on the release of the film in Tamil Nadu.
The petitioner, B. Stalin, who is an advocate, also sought to cancel the clearance issued by the Central Board of Film Certification to the movie as it contained “objectionable contents.” He contended that the release of the movie might lead to law and order problem.
The petitioner submitted representations on August 10 to the DGP to ban the movie in Tamil Nadu and the CBFC to cancel the clearance certificate. He moved the court because his representations were not considered, he claimed.
A Division Bench comprising N. Paul Vasanthakumar and P. Devadass ordered notice and posted the case to August 21 for further hearing. The movie is slated to be released on August 23.
Vaiko demands ban

MDMK general secretary Vaiko demanded a ban on the release of the movie. If it was not banned, his party would conduct demonstration in theatres, he said.
