A six-day-old baby boy died of severe brain haemorrhage in the early hours of Sunday, after undergoing treatment for a week in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital.
Dean Narayana Babu told The Hindu that the baby, weighing 2.7 kg, was brought to the hospital with severe respiratory distress, haemorrhage and other complications.
It was born at the Theerthamalai PHC on November 17.
His 21-year-old mother Sathya died of post-partum haemorrhage during delivery. The baby was taken to the government hospital at Harur and then referred to the Dharmapuri hospital, where he was placed in level three care.
