A fully air-conditioned Ayakar Seva Kendra (ASK) with a modern ambience was inaugurated by M. Eyas Ahmed, Joint Commissioner, Nagercoil Range near Tower junction on Friday.
Inaugurating ASK, Mr. Ahmed said it is a people-friendly initiative of the Central Board of Direct Taxation (CBDT) to render various services to the tax-abiding citizens.
The ASK in Nagercoil will have single-window system to cater to the needs of over 3 lakh tax payers in the range bifurcated from Tuticorin from November 15, 2014.
The Kendra will be manned by three computer operators, a ‘May I Help you’ counter and a supervisor to monitor the functioning.
The centre is akin to the corporate ambience with a television set to entertain the waiting taxpayers. All those who submit their papers would be given an acknowledgement slip and all services are time-bound. Tax-payers can verify the status of their claim online on real-time basis.
An official of the Income Tax department told The Hindu that Rs. 95 crore has been set as target for tax collection from Nagercoil IT range in the current financial year.
On behalf of Chartered Accountants’ Association Franklin, Chartered Accountant, Kolathuran Pillai and Income Tax Practitioners’ Association President J.K. Kumar participated. B.S. Venukumar, Income Tax Officer – Administration and Nodal Officer for Ayakar Seva Kendra welcomed the gathering. Over 100 persons including tax payers participated.
