School and college students, government employees, members of the voluntary organisations and people from all walks of life participated in an awareness rally taken out in the city on Sunday on the occasion of the National Voters’ Day.
M. Maharabushanam, District Collector, flagged off the rally and walked along with the other participants, including A.G. Babu, Deputy Commissioner of Police, S. Selvaraj, District Revenue Officer, and K.R. Selvaraj, Corporation Commissioner.
The rally culminated into a seminar at Nehru Auditorium. The Collector administered the National Voters’ Day pledge to all on the occasion.
The people who spoke underlined the importance of the citizens of the country exercising their democratic right positively.
District Collector S. Prabakar joined hundreds of college students for the marathon for National Voter Day awareness taken out from the Velalar College of Enginneering and Technology, Thindal, on Sunday. Students of Kongu Arts and Science College, Erode Arts and Science College, Chikkiah Naicker College conveyed the need for upholding democracy by exercising franchise unfailingly, taking part in all democratic exercises, and ensuring compulsory voting of all those who complete 18 years of age.
The Collector later flagged off a bicycle rally at the Sri Vasavi College, Chithode. Erode Corporation Commissioner R. Mohan, Erode Revenue Divisional Officer P. Menaka, and other senior officials took part.
At the Kamarajar Corporation Higher Secondary School, the Collector honoured winners of elocution, and drawing competitions conducted in connection with the National Voters Day 2015. He conveyed to the students that India was a leading democracy in the world and it was the duty of the younger generation to foster democratic principles in order to sustain economic growth.
