Awareness camps, rallies mark national voters’ day

The National Voters’ Day is being observed to remind the electorate of its rights and responsibilities towards the democratic process, Collector N.Subbaiyan said here on Sunday.

Speaking after administering the National Voters’ Day pledge, inaugurating an awareness campaign, and flagging off a rally, he said it was the duty of every eligible voter to exercise his or her franchise. An awareness rally which commenced at Railady passed through Gandhiji Salai and East Main Street before reaching Sangeetha Mahal. Winners of competitions for students were honoured at the Sangeetha Mahal.

PERAMBALUR: There are 5,12,185 voters in the district as per the final electoral roll released on January 5, 2015. Of them, 2,53,691 are male voters, 2,58,467 women, and 27 Others .

V.Rajan Durai, District Revenue Officer, announced this after flagging of a rally by school students. The rally which started from sub-collector’s office went via Kamarajar arch, Sangupattai, and Palakarai to reach Collector’s office. Later, the DRO distributed voters’ identity cards to new voters and certificates to booth-officers who had worked well.

ARIYALUR: Collector A. Saravanavelraj flagged off a cycle rally taken out from Azhagappa Cement Government HSS to the collectorate via Keelapazhur, Varanavasi, and Davuthaikulam. Sub-Collector Chandrasekarashamuri flagged off a rally by women self-help group members.

NAGAPATTINAM: Youth should enrol their names in the voters’ list to discharge their democratic duty, said Collector S.Palanisamy here on Sunday.

There are 12,12,209 voters in the district of whom 6,05,381 are male and 6,06,827 are female voters. One voter is a transgender. A total of 34,998 new voters have been enrolled in the district.
