P. M. Mannan, former Deputy Mayor and a close aide of M. K. Alagiri, on Friday said that he had instructed DMK men to desist from pasting controversial posters.
He was one of five people suspended from the party on Thursday on the charge of indulging in anti-party activities. Asked if he had instructed his followers to remove the controversial posters, he said: “Removal as such is not necessary because posters generally do not remain intact for more than two days. But, I have asked them not to paste any more posters that would lead to another controversy.”
However, a handful of posters, which were stuck after party president M. Karunanidhi’s warning on Tuesday, continued to remain intact on the city walls. One of them, stuck by 83 ward councillor A. Manickam, contained the Tamil adage: “Will a chicken die on being stamped by the hen?” Mr. Alagiri is yet to return to Madurai.
