DMK president M.Karunanidhi on Sunday urged the Central and State governments to actively consider the plea of fishermen to procure fishing rights in Sri Lankan territorial water for a few months in a year.

In a statement, the DMK chief said the fishermen had complained to a Union Minister about their plight as there was not enough catch in the Indian territorial water. When they had to enter into the territory of Sri Lanka in search of good catch, they were frequently attacked by the Sri Lankan Navy.
