Assistance distributed under Amma Thittam

Revenue Minister R.B. Udhayakumar distributed welfare assistance to more than 1,200 people to the tune of Rs 6.04 crore in the two districts under Amma Thittam, while taking part in two separate functions on Friday.

Addressing a function chaired by Collector S. Malarvizhi at Satharasankottai in Sivaganga district, Mr. Udhayakumar and Minister for Khadi and Village Industries Board G. Baskaran distributed welfare assistance worth Rs.2.80 crore to 289 people.

Later, at a function chaired by Collector S. Natarajan at Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district, the Minister, along with Minister for Information Technology M. Manikandan distributed welfare assistance worth Rs.3.24 crore to 935 beneficiaries.

The beneficiaries were given old age pension, educational assistance, financial assistance for building houses under Indira Awaz Yojana (IWA), aid for differently abled people, agriculture implements for farmers, financial assistance under Uzhavar Paadukappu Thittam and house site pattas.

Addressing the functions, Mr. Udhayakumar said as per the direction of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, Amma Thittam camps were held at villages to redress the grievances of the people and distribute welfare assistance at their very localities.

After presenting a tax-free budget for 2016-17, the Chief Minister proposed to unveil many more welfare schemes for the benefit of the poor and downtrodden, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Baskarn said under Amma Thittam, the grievances of the general public were addressed instantaneously and welfare assistance provided to the needy at their doorsteps.

Addressing the function at Paramakudi, Mr. Manikandan said officials should discharge their duties with total commitment and ensure that the welfare assistance reached the needy without any problem.

District Revenue Officer T. Ilango, Manamadurai MLA Mariappan Kennedy and District Panchayat Union Chairman K.S. Shivdev Kumar were among others present at the function held in Sivaganga district.

The function at Paramakudi in Ramanathapuram district was attended among others by DRO M. Ali Akbar, Paramakudi MLA Dr. Muthiah, District Panchayat Union Chairman M. Sundarapandian and councillor M.A. Muniasamy.
