Condemning the Centr’s decision to go ahead with the proposal to construct third and fourth nuclear reactors at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KKNPP) site with Russian assistance, the People’s Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) has urged Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to take immediate steps to stop the expansion proposal.
A statement from the PMANE said that anti-KKNPP activists, during their meeting with Ms. Jayalalithaa in September, had urged her to take all-out efforts to stop the upcoming nuclear power project as West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee did in the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited’s Haripur Nuclear Power Project. The Chief Minister replied that Ms. Banerjee was able to oppose it since the Haripur Nuclear Power Project was in the nascent stage.
“Since the proposal to construct the third and the fourth reactors at KKNPP is only at the preliminary stage now, the people of Tamil Nadu expect the Chief Minister to do something to stop the construction of two more reactors at Kudankulam.”
The PMANE also urged DMK president M. Karunanidhi to explain his party’s stand on the Centre’s plan to construct two more reactors in the upcoming nuclear park (where the NPCIL plans to establish 6 X 1,000 MWe nuclear reactors).
An industrially prosperous state like TN should not follow the example of West Bengal where there is absolutely no job opportunity. PMANE and the anti nuclear coterie will take us back to the stone age. This movement is best nipped in the bud before it spreads to other parts of India.
Though energy is a demanding item for the prosperity of a nation,nuclear energy handling need 100 safety, small country Thaiwan owns more than 70 plants, they are energy rich and self relient,they did not send people for overseas job, here in our country so much arguments and disarguments, but doing nothing, but if somthing doing that is biased to foreign interest, does any indian leadership able to proclaim that, he will lead the nation without the help of any one? By looking india's own history of the past and ancient. We should stop all comotion on this, may be we need 1000 plants of its kind, but we should listen that words also 'loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu' it can be interpret as not only to human beings live happily, but also all, including plants and animals, we need to plan for all, not only think and move with construction for the sake of constuction
