Visitors to the lion safari at Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Vandalur, can enjoy sighting three prides of lions.
Chief Conservator of Forests and Zoo Director K.S.S.V.P. Reddy said that the lion population was on the rise.
As the lions had formed groups according to their instincts and compatibility, authorities had apportioned two small areas within the existing safari area.
Visitors can see one pride in the open forest area and the other two in the newly created fenced yards.
Work on the new facility began in January this year and was completed recently at a cost of Rs.6 lakh. Facilities such as rest shed and water trough had been provided in the new area for the lions.
The new enclosures had been created on a 160-sq.metre area. Each pride consists of three to four animals.
The zoo has totally 15 lions, including cubs, he said.
