The District Police arrested an army man, serving in Rashtriya Rifles (RR) in Jammu and Kashmir, for creating a ruckus at Mandalamanickam police station in Kamudhi block on Wednesday after trying to secure the release of his cousin.

P. Ilayaraja (26), who was on vacation, visited the police station on Tuesday night in an inebriated condition after the police arrested his cousin M. Manikandan in connection with a group clash. A senior police officer, who was present at the police station at that time, explained the seriousness of the case to Ilayaraja and advised him to go home. The army man visited the police station on Wednesday morning and created a ruckus, demanding the release of Manikandan, who faced charges under Sections 323, 324 and 307 of the Indian Penal Code.

The police said Ilayaraja abused the police security, Anwar Jamal Mohamed, held out a threat to his life and trespassed into the police station. Acting on the complaint lodged by the policeman, the police arrested him under Sections 447, 294 (b), 189, 353 and 506 (ii) of the IPC. He was remanded in judicial custody.
