The 53rd inter-zonal police sports meet at Anna Stadium teemed with action. The three-day event that ended on Thursday saw participation of teams from central, south, west, and north zones besides those from Armed Police, Chennai City Police, and Tamil Nadu Commando Force. Over 1000 police personnel took part in the competitions for men and women.
Volleyball, football, basketball, handball, kabaddi, hockey, badminton, and obstacle team race were conducted for men, while women participated in volleyball, kabaddi, basketball, and badminton. Armed Police with 125 points won the overall championship while south zone (62) and central zone (50) finished second and third respectively.
M. Ramasubramani, Inspector General of Police, Central Zone, said that the spirit of participation was more important than winning.
The IG honoured the winners with prizes in the presence of K. Balamurugan, Regional Passport Officer, Tiruchi, and a host of senior police officials.

Best players (team games): Men: Handball: Vivek (Armed Police); Hockey: Arun Gandhi (Armed Police); Volleyball: Sathish (Armed Police); Football: Dhanasekar (Armed Police); Kabaddi: Gnanamurugan (Armed Police); and Basketball: Gopal (Armed Police).
Women: Volleyball: Selvameena (Armed Police); Kabaddi: Jayalakshmi (Central Zone); and Basketball: Renuka (Central Zone).
