In another twist to the controversy over the appointment of IPS officer Archana Ramasundaram as CBI Additional Director, the Supreme Court on Friday restrained her from discharging duties in her new posting.
On a writ petition by journalist Vineet Narain, a Bench headed by Chief Justice R.M. Lodha said “prima facie” her appointment did not appear to be in accordance with the procedure contemplated under the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act.
Senior counsel K.K. Venugopal, appearing for Mr. Narain, said the Centre appointed her overruling the selection committee’s recommendation for senior IPS officer R.K. Pachnanda. The CJI said Ms. Ramasundaram’s appointment was “illegal.”
>The Tamil Nadu government has suspended Ms. Ramasundaram f or “deserting office.”
