Arasu Cable warns operators

May 28, 2014 09:45 am | Updated 12:43 pm IST - CHENNAI:

Warning cable television operators against fleecing customers, the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation has asked the customers to insist on printed receipt for their monthly subscription fee to ensure that they are not over charged.

The government has stipulated a subscription fee of Rs. 70 per connection a month, and the LCOs have been mandated to collect the sum. To prevent operators from collecting excess fee, the corporation introduced the printed receipt system a couple of months ago, officials said.

While the operators could keep Rs. 50 a connection as administrative expenses, they must credit Rs. 20 to the corporation’s account, officials pointed out.

District-level officials involved in the operations were told, at a videoconference on Tuesday, to keep a tab on the subscription fee collection by the operators to avoid complaints of excess fee collection, sources said.

There are around 24,000 LCOs all over the State, and they receive the signal from the Arasu Cable TV Corporation, the Multi System Operator, to undertake the ‘last mile connectivity,’ linking the consumer. At the videoconference, corporation officials asked district officials to expedite remittance of subscription fee. They were told to tone up the functioning, the sources said.

Corporation chairman Udumalai K. Radhakrishnan, managing director J. Kumaragurubharan and general managers Murugesh and Priya interacted with the officials.
