Arani drinking water extension work which proposes to supply 6.6 million litres of water a day in addition to the existing supply will be completed by September 30, Collector A. Gnanasekaran has said.
The Rs.36.26-crore project is being implemented by the Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board and will benefit the residents of Arani municipality.
HR&CE Minister Sevur S. Ramachandran and Mr. Gnanasekaran inspected the works on Thursday. They visited the wells being dug in Palar and the head pumping station at Muppathu Vetti on Arcot Cheyyar Road. “Water will be pumped from here and will go through a 33-km-long pipeline to a sump constructed near the Arani municipal office, which has a capacity of 2 lakh litres. From there, water will again be pumped to overhead tanks . At present, 69,000 residents of the town are supplied 90 litres of drinking water a day and the project will augment it to 135 litres,” the Collector said.
