The Madras High Court has directed a people's welfare association to submit a representation again to the Joint Commissioner (JC), Relief cum Rehabilitation, Chepauk, regarding its plea for allotment of houses under the tsunami relief scheme at Kannagi Nagar, Semmencheri, to the association members.

In its petition, G.Yadhavan, president of the Tsunami Makkal Podunala Sangam (welfare association of the tsunami affected), prayed the court for a direction to the authorities to allot the houses to the members. He said the members were affected by the 2004 tsunami. They occupied the houses constructed by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board for the victims at Kannagi Nagar. Despite representation, the government did not take steps to allot the houses to them.

Disposing of the petition, Justice K.Suguna directed the petitioner to submit again his representation dated May 19 this year to the JC, Relief and Rehabilitation, with necessary documents within two weeks. The JC should consider the same and pass orders in accordance with the scheme.
