A public interest litigation petition has been filed in the Madras High Court challenging the appointment of three Information Commissioners and the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) for the State.
In her petition, S.Vijayalakshmi of Periyar Nagar here stated that she is an RTI activist. She said that the three Information Commissioners, R. Perumalsamy, T. Srinivasan, Sarada Nambi Arooran and CIC K.S. Sripathi were appointed in violation of the Right to Information Act. Their appointment was not transparent. Leader of the Opposition Jayalalithaa was “deliberately sidelined” in the matter.
The petitioner alleged that several quasi-judicial directions were being issued by the Information Commissioners on a day-to-day basis, “without hearing or even notifying the opposite side.”
She prayed the court to call for the records of the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department of the Tamil Nadu government dated April 17, 2008 and September 1, 2010 appointing the four persons and quash them as arbitrary and violative of the RTI Act.
