Women from Vilathikulam taluk urged the district administration to shift a TASMAC liquor shop, which is located at a place between Ayan Pommaiyapuram and Zamin Karisalkulam, to a non-residential locality.

Villagers of the taluk submitted a petition to Collector M. Ravikumar.

In the petition, the affected villagers said men, who consumed liquor at the shop, were causing nuisance to the public.

The location houses a temple, school and a bus stop adjacent to the liquor shop.

Resolutions to evict the liquor shop were already passed at Ayan Pommaiyapuram and Zamin Karisalkulam village panchayats during the gram sabha meeting convened on January 26.

Despite passing the resolution, no effort had been made to shift the shop.

If the liquor shop was not shifted from that locality within a month, a massive protest would be staged involving political parties, the petition added.
