People from different walks of life have expressed their displeasure with the Union Budget terming it “anti-people and anti-farmer.”
Criticising the budget as ‘corporate-friendly’, the district secretary of All India Kisan Sabha, V. Subramanian, said that not even a single significant announcement was made for the farm sector, which is the back bone of the economy.
He told The Hindu that reducing the corporate tax would only help the corporates but not the ordinary masses. Moreover, it would not lead to increase in employment opportunity as claimed by the Minister. Unless farmers had a greater role in fixing the price for their produce, their socio-economic status could not be uplifted.
Terming the Budget “anti-farmer,” the president of Cauvery Delta Farmers’ Protection Association, Cauvery Dhanabalan said the allocation to agriculture sector was meagre. Farmers expected a lot from the Government in the budget. But it had announced only liberal repayable loan facility to farmers. Instead, they should have increased the budget allocation.
Salaried class people were disappointed for not raising the individual income tax limit, said Manjula of Nagapattinam.
