May 22, 2014 02:41 am | Updated November 16, 2021 07:26 pm IST - CHENNAI:

The Madras High Court on Wednesday granted conditional anticipatory bail to Gurumurthy, whose nomination as BJP candidate for the Nilgiris Lok Sabha constituency was rejected, in a case of alleged offences, including criminal intimidation.

Vacation Judge Justice R. Mahadevan passed the order on a petition filed by Mr. Gurumurthy and three others.

In the petition, Mr. Gurumurthy said that on May 17, he and three others burst crackers to celebrate the BJP’s victory. A few others objected to it and assaulted them. One of the petitioners, Pappannan, filed a police complaint, but no action was taken. But Ankumar filed a police complaint against the petitioners. A case was registered for offences, including criminal intimidation.
