Anbumani questions VC appointments

Paatali Makkal Katchi’s Anbumani Ramadoss has questioned the appointment of Vice-Chancellors for the Madurai Kamaraj University (MKU) and the University of Madras.

He questioned why Mr. Chelladurai, against whom an FIR was pending in a criminal case, was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of MKU. “While it is being said that Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao is keen on preventing malpractices in appointing V-Cs, it is a fact that these are continuing,” he alleged.

According to him, Mr. Chelladurai has no experience as a professor, whereas UGC Regulations mandate a minimum of 10 years as professor.

Mr. Anbumani alleged that the name of P. Duraisami, who was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Madras, was not in the shortlist submitted by the search committee to the Governor. “Because of the pressure exerted by the Chief Minister’s office, Devaraj and Velmurugan’s names were removed and Duraisami and Sacchithanandam’s names were included,” he claimed.
