The City Municipal Corporation has incurred an expenditure of Rs. 8.10 crore in running of 10 Amma canteens in the last 20 months. This has resulted in cutting short money to be spent on providing basic amenities to the people, said the Leader of the Opposition M. Bhuvaneswari (DMK).

She said that Rs. 2.13 lakh was required every month to run each of these canteens, while the income was from them was Rs. 1.08 lakh a month. She said that the civic body had spent Rs. 6 crore to construct buildings, and purchase kitchen items for the 10 canteens.

The loss due to running of these canteens in the last 20 month was Rs. 2.10 crore. Because of poor financial planning, the corporation was not able to give salary even to its employees.
