AMK demand action against officials

March 18, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:51 am IST - RANIPET:

Volunteers of the Vellore East District unit of Arundhadhiyar Makkal Katchi (AMK) staged a demonstration in front of the office of the Revenue Divisional Officer in Ranipet on Monday. They demanded action against the Ranipet RDO, the Tahsildars of Arakkonam, Walajapet and Arcot and Block Development Officers of Arakkonam, Walajapet, Arcot, Nemili, Kaveripakkam and Timiri for their “failure” to take action on the petitions submitted by the AMK since last year. Valasai E. Ravichandran, founder president of AMK said the volunteers staged a protest on August 25, 2014 and submitted petitions relating to provision of drinking water and street lights in areas inhabited by Arundhadhiyars, establishment of burial grounds, laying of link roads in the Arundhadhiyar colonies, and allotment of Solar Powered Green Houses and group houses under the Indira Awas Yojana. But no action has been taken so far.

Mr. Ravichandran said no action had been taken against those who had encroached on the burial ground used by Arundhadhiyars for the last 75 years in Chettithangal village panchayat. The AMK also condemned the “inaction” on petitions seeking old age pension, widow pension and pension for differently-abled.

The AMK urged the Collector to constitute a monitoring committee to strictly follow quarrying of sand in the Palar as it led to depletion of ground water resources.
