The Gollapudi Srinivas National Award, instituted by the Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial Foundation, will go to Amit Rai for the Hindi film ‘Road to Sangam' for the year 2009.

According to a press release, the film was selected from 15 nominations from across the country in English, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Bengali.

Award function

The award, which includes a cash prize of Rs.1.5 lakh and a memento, will be presented at a function in Chennai on August 12.

Amit Rai, who has a Masters degree in dramatics from the Centre of Performing Arts, Pune University, has already received the best director award for the film at the International Film Festival of South Africa, 2009.

For debutant directors

The award was instituted by writer and actor Gollapudi Maruthi Rao and his family.

It is presented to debutant directors who have made a mark, in memory of Srinivas, who passed away in an accident during the shoot of his debut film in 1992.
