Justice K. Gnanaprakasam, former Judge, Madras High Court, delivered the annual V.C. Rajagopalachariar Memorial Lecture at VIT University on Tuesday.

Addressing the gathering, VIT Chancellor G. Viswanathan said courts were a place constituted to provide justice to the people. In India, the Constitution had provided space for the courts to function independently, and there were rights to ensure this, he said.

Efforts should be made to ensure that the courts continue to function independently.

Mr. Viswanathan said corruption and bribery had to be eliminated.

Lokpal Act

It was towards this objective that the Lokpal Act should be implemented and Lokayukta courts should be established, according to a press release.
