Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Saturday requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to make available the entire power generated at the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project to Tamil Nadu.
In a letter, she stated that the total generation capacity of the KKNPP's two units was 2000 MW. Of this, Tamil Nadu had been allocated only 925 MW.
Ms. Jayalalithaa recalled that she had sought allocation of 1000 MW from the Central pool last year. Only 100 MW was made available to the State. Tamil Nadu was facing severe power shortage. It would, therefore, be proper and justifiable that the entire power from the nuclear power project was made available to the State.
This was also inevitable as the transmission corridor congestion problem still continues.
She had brought this to his notice, Ms. Jayalalithaa said. She expressed the hope that her request would be positively considered.
She reiterated that the State required and deserved the power.
Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office, V. Narayanasamy, who led a campaign in support of the Kudankulam project and took on the protesters, had said recently that the Centre was ready to make available the entire power generated by the Kudankulam project, if such a request came from the State Government.
