September 17, 2009 03:39 pm | Updated 03:59 pm IST - TIRUCHI:

The Tamil Nadu Government Collegiate Teachers’ Association (TNGCTA) has welcomed the constitution of enquiry committee by the Chancellor and Governor to probe into the allegations levelled by the Joint Co-ordination Council, Bharathidasan University (JCC-BARD), against the Vice-Chancellor M. Ponnavaikko.

The JCC had petitioned the Governor to enquire into the “irregular appointments of teachers in university departments and constituent colleges, violation of tender rules in building constructions, and running of technical courses like M.Tech., without the approval of AICTE."

In a statement, the president of TNGCTA, Tiruchi-Pudukkottai Zone, N. Selvaraj, requested the Governor to take necessary steps to suspend the Vice-Chancellor in order to facilitate the enquiry committee to probe into the issues without any favour or pressure.
