Alagiri to unveil his next move after three months

February 15, 2014 04:16 am | Updated November 16, 2021 10:54 pm IST - MADURAI:

Former Union Minister, M.K. Alagiri, who was recently suspended from the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), said on Friday that he could withstand any number of political challenges but not a false accusation.

He told his supporters that he would spell out further course of action after three months. The former party’s South Zone organising secretary was addressing at a marriage function near here.

He said that he and his supporters had faced many challenges after he set foot in Madurai in 1980. “We faced a big challenge in 2000 and again now in 2014,” he said.

In a veiled reference to the party president and his father, M. Karunanidhi, accusing him of having used “harsh” words about party treasurer M.K. Stalin, Mr. Alagiri, said, “I can put up with any number of challenges. But, not a (false) accusation,” he said.

Stating that his supporters were predicting bigger positions for him in the coming days, he said, “One of them said that I will become the Chief Minister. But, I have never nurtured any such aspiration. My nature is that I feel happy by handing over posts offered to me to others,” he said. Mr. Alagiri said he was happier being with the party cadre. “This position is enough for me.”

He said he had to accept the party post of South zone organising secretary as it was forced upon him.

“(Because) it was an ‘anbu kattalai’ (diktat of love from the party high command),” he said.
