Suspended Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M.K. Alagiri called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday to thank him for giving him an opportunity to serve as a Minister in his Cabinet.
The rebel DMK leader, who is not among the party’s candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, said after the meeting that he would decide his future course of action after consulting his supporters.
Future plans
“Please wait for two months. I will reveal my stand after consulting my supporters,” the former Minister said while maintaining that he would definitely play a role in the general elections.
During his meeting with the Prime Minister, Mr. Alagiri is reported to have requested Dr. Singh to name the Madurai airport after freedom fighter Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar.
He also briefed Dr. Singh on the current political situation in Tamil Nadu.
The Congress has not yet found an alliance partner in the State for the Lok Sabha polls.
In the last elections, the Congress was an electoral ally of the DMK.
Rajya Sabha member K.P. Ramalingam, a staunch supporter of Mr. Alagiri, was present at the meeting.
