Aircel network crash blacks out voice, data services

December 27, 2013 01:07 am | Updated May 12, 2016 09:27 am IST - CHENNAI:

Aircel's mobile users across the city faced a blackout of voice and data services for hours together on Thursday due to a glitch in the operator's network.

Several users in the city complained that since about 11 a.m., they were unable to make or receive any calls or access the web.

By afternoon, user reactions that ranged from the anxious to the angry were out in social media platforms.

“I had to cancel more than one important appointment because I was virtually incommunicado for most of the day,” said Magesh, an advertisement executive.

Partially restored

The network seemed to have been partially restored by about 4 p.m. when some users reported that they had begun receiving calls, but normal services stabilised only an hour later in many areas of the city.

Aircel, however, put the network downtime to only a couple of hours.

A statement from the operator said: “Aircel network was interrupted for two hours. We deeply regret the inconvenience caused to our customers. This was due to a technical snag which has been addressed promptly and all services have been restored completely.”
