For U.M. Abitha, her dream of participating in the international biathlon meet to be held at Cyprus, is all set to become a reality as good number of philanthropists led by Karur Vysya Bank have come to her aid.
The KVB has decided to contribute Rs. 1 lakh to the girl, who stands in need of Rs. 1.90 lakh to participate in the Cyprus meet.
After the story of Ms. Abitha appeared in ‘ The Hindu ,’ senior officials from KVB contacted the girl’s father T.U. Muthukumar, who submitted relevant documents showing that the girl, after winning a silver medal in the all-India biathlon meet held at Goa, had qualified for the international biathlon meet to be held at Cyprus, to the bankers.
Having scrutinized the documents and the plea, the KVB has come forward to contribute Rs. 1 lakh to the girl at a simple function to be held on Thursday.
An oil dealer from Tuticorin has sent a demand draft for Rs. 50,000 to the girl while families of two doctors have promised to contribute Rs. 5,000 each.
“If the help, as promised by a few more people, also reach us on time, Abitha can easily fly to Cyprus after the conditioning camp to be held at Pune from September 22,” Mr. Muthukumar said.
Meanwhile, Collector C. Samayamoorthy, who played an active role in getting the passport for the girl under ‘tatkal scheme,’ instructed his subordinates to issue the required certificates to the girl after due verification on an early note.
