Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary Jayalalithaa has announced a massive demonstration in front of Central Government offices in district headquarters on Thursday (January 24), condemning the Centre and a key constituent of the United Progressive Alliance government, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
According to a release of the party, the demonstrations will be organised by the Anna Thozhirsanga Peravai, the party’s labour wing, condemning the Centre for eroding the federal principles and snatching away the rights of the State.
Detailing the reasons for organising the demonstrations, she said the Centre had failed to notify the final verdict of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal despite repeated pleas of the State.
It did not bother to address the acute power shortage in the State by denying the surplus available with it and not coming forward to allocate to Tamil Nadu power produced by the Central generating stations.
It had denied a licence to the Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation (TACTV) for operating in Chennai under the Digital Addressable System.
The Centre failed to allocate more funds or even kerosene, she charged.
The refusal to give her more time to speak about the State’s problems at the meeting of the National Development Council, the hike in price of diesel and LPG and the increase in rail fare were against the interests of people.
Condemning the Centre for snatching away the rights of the State and creating hurdles for just demands, Ms. Jayalalithaa criticised the DMK for being part of the Centre which was violating federal principles and neglecting the rights of the State.

Why cant TACTV be converted to a private venture accommodating all the
LCO's, or why cant they hire a private MSO like the TCCL and control the
system indirectly with all the 500 channels for a cheaper cost if they
really wish to serve the chennai people under the TACTV?
It will interesting to note that how the State Home secretary gives permission to State sponsored Bandh on Jan 24th?It will be more interesting if DMK also joins and makes the life of common man miserable along with the rulers.Unfortunately, the common person will not have the side to choose!
I am a neutral person. But,one thing all need to remember is that even if the Centre wants to support, we all know DMK is doing its best to stop it. DMK wants to play politics on this and want to continue being powerful at centre in 2014 elections. If this measure is not done, how can the common public understand the real issue. Even responsible media are not highlighting that DMK is doing nothing (though they are more powerful than the state government) to support the state's interest.
How about something else? For example, we as a people show excellent Civic sense on the
roads. We, as employees of the State Govt work the extra mile to provide corruption free
services to the people. Provide courteous answers to people calling in on help lines. I mean,
advertising the numbers is not enough, right? State Government engineers brainstorm as to
how best the power situation can be tamed. State engineers discuss how best water can be
conserved. People then whole heartedly cooperate with such measures. You get the drift.
Carry out the protests, by all means. But do the above too.
All the elected leaders should go and sit in front of the Parliament House to get all the pending issues cleared. Peope have elected their leaders to fight for them. Why should the people go to the streets to get things done. What for the leaders then? When the elected leaders are in touble, people will come forward to safeguard them on their own. Do NOT call the people to streets to fight.
UPA regime and its partner DMK are only interested in corruption and manipulating the states with their power. India is no longer a democratic nations under this UPA regime. The handling of the recent gang rape in New Delhi, the lack of rule of law, justice and the failure of the law enforcement authorities are exposed all over the world. Western media has exposed the failures in India, the disrespect to humanity, human rights and mankind.
She should support Modi and BJP. So that she can get a bargaining chip for future. Because associating with congress can lead to her demise. Appeasement over long term will antagonize Majority and votes will fall in other's pocket who can take care of them.
Why don't we boycot all the Union Ministers ?
Nowadays, tough stance should be taken by State governments if they want to get the attention of Central Government.
The DMK is interested in their family. Jayalaithaa should do the needfull for the TN state.
Such a protest would only cause inconvenience to the people at large. Instead of this, a more effective method could be a total boycot of all Central Ministers, whenever they visit the State. They should be left to fend for themselves without any back up from the State Government. When they do not care for our State, why should the State care for them at all? Especially for those ministers who hail from our State and who do not speak for us. They do not deserve any kind of support or back up from us.
Ms.Jayalalitha, the Chief Minister of Tamilnadu, should first think, before she blames the centre, for the increase in prices. What she did to the people of Tamilnadu, by increasing the prices of milk, increased the bus fares, etc etc. So, it is very clear, she is playing...a foul cry....to get the sympathy of public....this is ridiculous....everyone is making a mockery of public....I don't know, whether the public deserves this....or they don't know how to behave in this scenario...
As a seasoned politician, she should know the pitfalls in opposing
Central govt. Going to streets on these known problems will not help
her, but may make the Centre to harden their attitudes further. She
tried similar gimmick during her rule in 1991-96, on the same issue of
Cauvery, though at that time the Centre was friendly. But that yielded
no results. A better method would be to deploy Rajatantra or diplomacy,
just as Modi or Nitish or Mulayam does.In other words use friends, f
any, at Centre and not antagonise everyone.
