The AIADMK will hold ‘Veera Vanakka Naal' public meetings in all district headquarters on January 25 to commemorate those who laid down their lives during the anti-Hindi agitation in the State.
“It is our duty to pay our respect to the language martyrs,” party general secretary Jayalalithaa said in a statement. She called upon various wings of the party to coordinate to make the event successful. A list of speakers who would visit the districts to address public meetings has also been released.
In a separate statement, she announced a demonstration by the Ramanathapuram district unit of the party to highlight the failure of the State government to distribute relief to farmers for the crop damage caused during the recent flood.
She said farmers had been alleging that though crops over 1.27 lakh hectares had been damaged, the government had taken steps to distribute relief for crops on only 20 thousand hectares.
She said the demonstration would be held in Tiruvadanai.
