The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam will boycott the Assembly proceedings on Wednesday when the new Speaker assumes office.
Talking to reporters after submitting a memorandum to Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh, secretary of the Puducherry unit of the AIADMK A. Anbalagan said the Speaker election was held not in keeping with the democratic tradition. Mr. Anbalagan said that his party had submitted a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor urging him to cancel the election of Speaker as the majority of the All India N.R. Congress government was “questionable.”
The AIADMK wanted Mr. Singh to direct Mr. Rangasamy to prove his majority on the floor of the Assembly and then conduct the election of Speaker.
