A day after the State Election Commission notified the local body poll schedule, the ruling AIADMK released its list of candidates for the post of councillor in the all the 12 Municipal Corporations in Tamil Nadu.
As many as seven sitting Mayors, including Chennai Mayor Saidai Duraisamy, have been denied a ticket by the party high command.
Unlike the last civic polls where the Mayors were elected directly by voters, this time they will elected from among the winning councillors in each Corporation.
As per the list released by party general secretary and Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, who is convalescing in a corporate hospital in Chennai, the incumbent Mayors of Tirupur, Vellore, Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi have been denied ticket.
In the case of Dindigul Corporation, Mayor V. Marudha Raj’s daughter Pon. Muthu has been given a ticket as the post has been reserved for women. The Mayors of Salem, Madurai, Tiruchi, Thanjavur, and Erode have been given ticket to contest for the post of councillor.
