In an act of fulfilment of vow following the acquittal of AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa in the disproportionate assets case, a group of about 5000 cadres men took out a “fire pot” rally after tonsuring their heads in Karur on Tuesday.
V. Senthil Balaji, Transport Minister, was among those took part in a massive fire pot rally that started from the Amaravathi river near Five Point Junction and culminated at Goddess Mariamman Temple here. They offered prayer at the temple.
Earlier, except Mr. Balaji, who offered his hair at Thai Mookambikai Temple in Karnataka, others tonsured their heads on the banks of the Amaravathi. The mass tonsuring began at 4 a.m. and ended about 9 a.m. They then wore new clothes and took part in the fire port rally.
“We all wanted to see our leader to take over the reigns of Tamil Nadu again after getting acquitted in the case. It has become a reality now. Hence, we have fulfilled our vow to the Goddess Mariamman,” said an AIADMK leader in Karur.
