K. Jaishankar (38), a ruling party functionary in Dharmapuri district, was hacked to death by unidentified persons on Friday night.
According to police, he was secretary of Chinna Kundalahalli panchayat near Karimangalam town, and the incident took place when he was returning home from a friend's place.
