AIADMK candidates begin electioneering

After offering special prayers in a couple of temples in their constituencies, ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s candidates for the May 16 Assembly polls commenced their electioneering in all 10 segments in the district on Saturday.

AIADMKcandidate for the ‘Oxford of South India’ A. Thamizh Mahan Hussein started his electioneering along with party cadres after offering prayers at Prasanna Vinayagar Temple and Balasubramaniyar Temple in South Bazaar in Palayamkottai.

After inaugurating the election office for Palayamkottai segment on the South Bypass Road, Rajya Sabha MP and party’s district secretary S. Muthukaruppan appealed to the party functionaries to work tirelessly for the resounding victory of AIADMK candidates in all ten Assembly constituencies.

“The Tamil Nadu Government has fulfilled all its poll promises made during the 2011 election campaign. Hence, the party workers, without exhibiting differences of opinion, should work for the unparalleled victory of AIADMK candidates,” Mr. Muthukaruppan said.

Later, he participated in the electioneering and canvassed votes for party’s candidate for Tirunelveli constituency Nainar Nagenthran, who is the only MLA to be fielded again in the district while all other MLAs have been denied tickets.

Similarly, AIADMK candidates M. Vijayakumar (Nanguneri), I.S. Inbadurai (Radhapuram), Hepzi Karthikeyan (Alangulam), V.M. Rajalakshmi (Sankarankovil), A. Manoharan (Vasudevanallur), R. Murugaiah Pandian (Ambasamudram), C. Selva Mohandas Pandian (Tenkasi) and alliance partner S. Shaik Dawood of Thamizh Maanila Muslim League (Kadayanallur) also started their campaign on Saturday.

The candidates distributed pamphlets detailing the achievements of the AIADMK regime over the past five years and the welfare schemes “that had revolutionised the living standards of rural poor.”

Nagercoil

All the six candidates of AIADMK in Kanyakumari district started election campaign after inaugurating election offices in their respective constituencies on Saturday. The party high command had on Friday issued directions to the candidates to begin campaigning and open election offices on Saturday morning in their respective constituencies.

Former minister and district secretary, and the Kanyakumari candidate, N. Thalavai Sundaram, inaugurated the election office in Thovalai. After the inauguration, he began his election campaign after offering prayers at Thanumalayan temple in Suchindram. Mr. Thalavai Sundaram undertook door-to-door election campaign and issued pamphlets to public on the Mada Veethi of Suchindram temple and Akkarai area in his constituency.

Former minister and Colachel candidate K.T. Pachaimal inaugurated the election office in Thingal Nagar and started his campaign in Thingal Santhai market. Similarly, the Nagercoil MLA and candidate, A. Nanjil Murugesan, inaugurated election office in Vadaseri and began his campaign. Former minister and Padmanabhapuram candidate K.P. Rajendra Prasad, Killiyoor candidate Mary Kamalabai and Vilavancode candidate G. Nanjil Dominic also inaugurated election offices and began their election campaigning, party sources here said.
