AIADMK cadres condemned EVKS Elangovan, President, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee, here on Saturday for his remarks against Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.

The agitating cadres led by S. Muthukaruppa, district secretary of the party, marched towards the office of the Congress Party in Tirunelveli in a procession and demanded the immediate arrest of Mr. Elangovan and raised slogans against the DMK President, M.Karunanidhi, and MDMK General Secretary Vaiko for supporting him. They attempted to lay seige to the party office, but were denied entry. Subsequently, the women’s wing of AIADMK burnt the effigy of Mr. Elangovan and wailed.

Vehicular traffic flow was disrupted nearly for an hour as the agitating cadres occupied the road near Vannarapettai during the protest. Nainar Nagendran, MLA, Vijila Sathyanand, Rajya Sabha MP were among those who took part.

However, adequate police force was deployed near the Congress Party office here to prevent any untoward incident.
