The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) cadre of the central districts savoured every moment throughout Friday as the magic of the party’s performance throughout the State mesmerised them.

A large number of anxious party cadre, including women, displaying giant party flags, portraits of the party supremo Jayalalithaa started arriving near the counting centres in the central region in all sorts of vehicles from day break. The police were well-prepared to regulate the crowd and traffic on the main thoroughfares near the counting centres.

The party men burst into jubilation once the first round results were announced with the candidates establishing impressive lead in all the constituencies. To the beatings of the drums and the notes of the folk artistes, they fired crackers and distributed sweets among passersby.

As the victory of the party candidates were a foregone conclusion by 11 a.m., the excitement associated with election results was missing. The comfortable victory made many party men return home early. A majority of the party cadre stayed back till the counting was completed in the evening.
