AIADMK cadre ends life over CM’s health

An AIADMK cadre, S. Saravanan (60), reportedly committed suicide in Vadugapatti under the Nathampatti police station limits on Wednesday, depressed owing over reports on Chief Minister Jayalalithaa’s poor health condition.

Police said the deceased, an employee of a fireworks factory, consumed poison in the morning. His daughter P. Ponmani (31) said in a police complaint that her father had been a staunch loyalist of the AIADMK for the last 15 years. In the last one week, he seemed to be worried over the reports on Chief Minister’s health condition. He broke down on Wednesday and consumed poison.

Self-immolation bid

An AIADMK functionary allegedly attempted self-immolation in his house in Virudhachalam “as a sacrifice” for the speedy recovery of Ms. Jayalalithaa.

Police said Ganesan of Pudukooraipettai doused himself with kerosene and set himself ablaze.Neighbours rushed him to the Virudhachalam Government Hospital where he was diagnosed with 30 per cent burns After initial treatment, he was referred to the Cuddalore Government Hospital.
