It was time to heave a huge sigh of relief for residents of Vellore, after dreading hotter days this month, as a number of areas received light drizzle on Friday.
The day started out to be a sultry one, but by afternoon, it turned out to be a cloudy day. It started to drizzle in a few areas, much to the cheer of residents. People in Vellore have been bearing the brunt of soaring mercury levels for the past few weeks.
The drizzle and cool breeze came as a surprise for residents as peak summer season – “Agninakshatram’ - had started, and hotter days were being expected.
Vellore city recorded a temperature of 39.2 degree Celsius on Friday, according to the meteorological office. Only a trace of rainfall was recorded.
On May 4, the temperature was 40.2 degree Celsius, followed by 39.0 degree Celsius on May 5. The peak summer season is from May 4 to 28.
