Southern Railway Additional General Manager (AGM) S.K. Sharma on Friday inspected Rameswaram railway station and made suggestions for improving passenger amenities.

The AGM suggested improvements in passenger amenities such as drinking water facility and additional restrooms, Divisional Railway Manager (Madurai) A.K. Rastogi said.

The AGM later visited Pamban rail bridge and checked the corroded girders being replaced. The railways identified 28 highly corroded girders and awarded contract to a private company to replace them.

The work, which began on January 6, was expected to be completed by March-end.

Girder replacement

This was the first time after gauge conversion in 2007 that the corroded girders were being replaced.

The AGM also inspected the seashore railway quarters at Pamban, the DRM said.
