Advanced LASIK centre inaugurated

May 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:40 am IST - SALEM:

An advanced LASIK centre for refractive error correction through laser procedure was inaugurated at Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital here on Wednesday.

Addressing presspersons, Chief Managing Director of Agarwal’s Group of Eye Hospital Amar Agarwal said that laser refractive surgery has become the most prevalent procedure to correct eye power or sight in recent years. “This advanced LASIK technology will be able to treat refractive error like myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism to get normal, high quality vision without glasses”, he added. The laser emits a cool beam of ultraviolet light of a specific wavelength to precisely remove corneal tissue. When the surface of the cornea is reshaped in the right way, it allows light rays to focus properly onto the retina for clear vision.

Excimer lasers have automated eye-tracking systems that monitor eye movements and keep the laser beam on target during surgery, he added.

He said that the recovery is quick and one can start their normal activities the next day. Karpagavalli, Head – Cataract and Refractive Surgery and doctors were present.
