Countering the allegation that the current dispensation under his leadership was inept, Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said that such baseless allegations were being by his political opponents with an ulterior motive.

Speaking to mediapersons after receiving petitions from the people of his Edappadi constituency near here on Sunday, Mr. Palaniswami said that he had cleared various schemes in the last 73 days, adding that they would be launched soon and executed on a war-footing.

The Chief Minister said his regime had accorded priority to the implementation of special projects to meet the drinking water needs across the State and also for the kudimaramathu scheme. The government’s initiative on road projects, power generation, infrastructure development in government hospitals and in education had all been acclaimed.

Unmindful of the allegations, the government would continue to serve all sections of the society and ensure the development of the State on all fronts, he said.

Lashes out at OPS camp

Later, speaking at another meeting, Mr. Palaniswami accused the AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) faction of deliberately blocking the merger move of both the AIADMK factions.

Addressing a party workers meeting in the city on Sunday evening, Mr. Palaniswami said that the leaders of the rival camp had been raising irrelevant issues. They had raised two major issues as a pre-condition for the merger. One issue was pending in the court [demand for probe into Jayalalithaa’s death] and another one was with the Election Commission, he said.

However, Mr. Palaniswami said that even if the OPS camp was not in favour of a merger, it should not bother his faction, as it had the party and the government.

The Chief Minister also came down heavily against DMK working president M. K. Stalin calling him a “substitute leader”.
