A fine of ₹15,731 was slapped on Veerappan, the driver of actor Dhanush, for illegally tapping power from an electric post at Muthurangapuram village in Andipatti block of Theni district on Thursday.

The villagers alleged that Veerappan illegally tapped power from the post for three hours for the conduct of a temple festival and for the caravan of the actor, who had come to the temple along with his family members in the morning.

Acting on a complaint lodged by the local people, TANGEDCO officials in Andipatti West Zone served a notice and slapped the fine on him. Veerappan paid the fine.

Later, the actor’s family left the village.
