Absence of signboards, poor illumination and visibility of road intersections is worrying road users on the Salem — Namakkal National Highway. This often creates confusion.

The 55-km stretch from Salem to Namakkal has four major bus stops — Mallur, Andalur Gate, Puduchatram, and Budhansandai. Service roads from bypass have to be taken to reach these bus stops in the stretch.

Absence of signboards at these junctions, unauthorised parking of lorries along the service roads, force vehicle users to take the wrong road.

The situation is difficult during night hours because there will be none to clarify their queries. Many drivers go up to 5km to realise that they are on the wrong path. Some of the sign boards along the highway displaying the distance is too small to be identified.

If these boards are made big and proper lighting is provided, it will help drivers to a great extent. The boards should be visible at least 200m away.
