ABC inaugurated in Salem

American Business Corner (ABC), an information centre jointly set up by the Serve Salem Foundation and the American Department of Commerce, was inaugurated here on Wednesday.

The unique initiative has been set up with the objectives of improving infrastructure, facilitating students and business community to get connected to the United States enhancing business and educational opportunities and getting more exposure to the world.

John M. McCaslin, Minister Counsellor for Commercial Affairs, Embassy of USA, New Delhi, inaugurated the new facility at a function in the city. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. McCaslin said that the ABC is a unique concept implemented by the United States Government in India alone. This concept was introduced at first in Madurai in 2012 and the ABC set up in Salem city was the 15th one.

Trade between the US and India is soon expected to cross the $100 billion mark and commercial ties between the two countries are at an all time high.

Stating that the ABC is a true partnership, he said that it provided a dedicated platform to US to engage with the Salem business community on ways to increase business ties. John Fleming, Principal Commercial Officer, Commercial Consul, Consulate General of the USA, Chennai, said that the ABC programme is a major initiative in support of advancing business and trade cooperation between the US and Indian companies and aims to increase commercial engagement in Tier II cities where the US Government does not have a physical presence.

S. P. Balasubramaniam, president of the Serve Salem Foundation, said that students or business community can know about the opportunities on higher studies, business opportunities by visiting the ABC. Mr. McCaslin, handed over certificate of appreciation to the Serve Salem Foundation and the same was received by S. P. Balasubramaniam, its president, G. Vinod Babu, secretary, Asoka, former Rotary district governor and other members.
