Vellore Aavin’s hi-tech parlour is coming up at Velapadi at a cost of ₹65 lakh. Work is under way at this facility that will be fully air-conditioned, officials said.
In fact, the parlour has been planned in such a way that customers can sit and enjoy Aavin’s products under the open sky on the first floor, an official said.
Vellore Aavin is taking steps to open 24-hour parlours at important spots in the town.
The sites are being identified, he added.
The Vellore-Tiruvannamalai District Co-operative Milk Producers’ Union held its general body meeting on Thursday. According to a press release, there are 756 milk producers’ cooperative societies functioning under the union.
‘Of this, 151 societies are run by women.
On an average, 2.95 lakh litres of milk is procured from the cooperative societies daily.
In 2016-2017, 70,500 litres of milk was sold a day by way of packets — in three kinds including full cream and standardised — as per the requirements of consumers in the two districts. The union was supplying milk to cater to the consumers in Chennai. On an average, it supplied 1.60 lakh litres of milk a day.
Sales figures
In 2016-2017, various milk products such as ghee, ‘khoa’, ‘Mysurpa’, milk powder, ice cream, milk cake, dates ‘khoa’, lassi, buttermilk and curd were sold for ₹15,79,18,537. Of this, milk products estimated at ₹8,68,06,613 were sold locally, while the remaining was sold in Chennai, the release said.
To boost the sales of milk and milk products, Vellore Aavin had appointed 326 sales agents. Another 16 new agents were appointed in 2016-2017. As many as 22 new parlours were also established. Hi-tech parlours were functioning at Ambur and Sumaithangi on the Bengaluru-Chennai National Highway.
The union’s mobile facility was transporting nearly 1,500 litres of milk to cater to the urgent requirements of hotels, canteens and tea shops during evening hours, the release added.
